DESCRIPTION
A VERY LOCAL EXPERIENCE IN THE WILDERNESS!
Enjoy a very local experience! Your guide will take you into deep forests to a wilderness cabin with a log sauna. The traditional cabin has no electricity or running water ; the small lake and nature around is providing everything it needs! The place is beautiful and extremely peaceful – perfect for a relaxing moment! It naturally inspires a feeling of disconnection from reality, being lost in the middle of nowhere.
Your guide will lit the wood-burner in the sauna and give you more instructions how to use it in the very Finnish way. There is also a pontoon that leads directly to the lake : if you are brave enough to go in the water and if the ice conditions allow it, we may open a hole in the ice (avanto)! It is very healthy to alternate hot sauna with cold water (or at least cold air).
Sauna towels, soaps, birch tar oil and other equipment needed will be provided by your guide (please bring your swimsuit if you need to ; or sauna can also be naked like Finns usually do…). The experience is always private and the guide will give you all privacy needed. He / she will prepare a local snack while you enjoy the traditional sauna.
We offer three departures for this private experience :
– 13:00 : the early afternoon session guarantees to have daylight in the heart of Winter (November – January) and enjoy the colors of the sunsets.
– 16:00 : the mid-afternoon session is perfect if you wish to fill your day with a late afternoon activity to relax and recover before dinner. From January to February, you may enjoy beautiful sunset colors too during that session.
– 19:00 : the location of the sauna is perfect for Northern Lights spotting when the weather conditions allow it. The lake is oriented north with absolutely no light pollution! Please note that the northern lights is up to Mother Nature, and is not guaranteed. If you are interested in a specific northern light hunting tour, we recommend our specific aurora tours.
The total duration of the experience includes transportation to the wilderness sauna, dressing time in the cottage and around 1h of sauna session.

We usually offer this experience tow to three days a week. If the day is not convenient for your schedule, please contact us and we may organise extra sessions on differents days.

The experience is always private for intimacy reasons. We recommend to book in advance, as availability may be limited in peak seasons.
Children from 5 years old are tolerated on this tour, but long sauna exposition is not recommended for children under 8 years old. In Winter, the conditions may be very cold (-30C) and the wilderness cottage cannot be warmed to standard temperatures.
Please dress appropriately according to the weather. We also recommend to bring extra drinks and an extra chlothing set with you for after sauna. Adults may bring their own alcoholic drinks (like beers or local long drinks) for sauna time, but we require a moderate alcohol consumption.
About sauna: the sauna takes a very important place in the traditions and culture of Finland. Finns normally go to sauna naked but it is possible to use your own swimsuit. Sauna stands for the bathroom in the wilderness cabins ; after enjoying the steam sauna, you may then take a natural shower with the hot clean waters!
CANCELLATION POLICY
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 10% if booking is cancelled 7 days or more before departure;
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 50% if booking is cancelled between 7 days and 24h before departure.
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 100% if booking is cancelled 24h or less before departure.
