2-day Private Ski Adventure, Overnight in Wilderness Cottage & Sauna

• Participants must arrive suitably dressed for cold winter weather. We recommend wearing warm clothing, comfortable hiking shoes or winter boots, gloves, and a hat. Dressing in layers will help you stay comfortable throughout the tour.
• We recommend bringing a bottle of water to stay well hydrated throughout the experience.
• Please bring all personal clothing, warm sleepwear such as thermal layers and wool socks and your usual toiletries. 

No previous skiing experience is required. Altai skis are short, wide backcountry skis designed for traveling through deep, ungroomed snow. Their integrated climbing skins provide grip when moving uphill while still allowing you to glide across flatter terrain and gentle downhill sections. Unlike traditional cross-country skis, they do not require prepared tracks and are well suited to exploring forests, hills, and open wilderness. They can be thought of as sliding snowshoes, which is also the literal meaning of their Finnish name, liukulumikengät.

Yes, when the ice and weather conditions allow it, your guide can prepare a swimming hole in the frozen lake. Ice swimming is completely optional. You may simply enjoy the wood-heated sauna and cool down outside in the fresh winter air or snow instead.

The wilderness cabin is located away from city lights, beside a lake with an open view of the northern sky. This provides suitable conditions for watching the Northern Lights when the sky is clear and aurora activity is sufficient. However, the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed.

A hotel sauna is often electrically heated, while a traditional Finnish sauna is heated with firewood. Water is poured over the hot stones to create löyly, the warm steam at the heart of Finnish sauna culture. During the experience, you can enjoy the heat at your own pace, cool down outside in the fresh air, and try optional swimming when conditions are safe. This traditional sauna experience reflects a way of life that has been part of Finnish culture for generations and is recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

In Finland, a sauna is usually enjoyed in several relaxed rounds rather than one long session. Spend time in the wood-heated sauna, pour water over the hot stones to create löyly, then step outside to cool down in the fresh winter air before returning to the warmth. You can repeat this cycle at your own pace, taking breaks whenever needed. This alternation between heat, cooling, and relaxation is at the heart of the traditional Finnish sauna experience.

Yes. Children are welcome to join the experience. In Finland, families often enjoy the sauna together, and the private session can be adapted to each child’s age and comfort. Young children should spend only a short time in the sauna and remain under constant adult supervision. They may also stay in the warm cabin with an adult. Ice swimming in winter is not recommended for young children, but they can step outside with an adult to cool down in the fresh air or snow and experience the traditional contrast between heat and cold.

The cottage has a dry toilet but no running water or electricity. Sleeping bags, mattresses, pillows, and bed linens are provided. Please bring your personal toiletries, warm overnight clothing, and any other personal items you may need during your stay. A mökki is a traditional Finnish countryside or wilderness cottage, usually located beside a lake and designed for simple living close to nature. This private wooden cottage is heated by a fireplace and has a shared sleeping area for your group, offering an authentic overnight experience rather than hotel-style accommodation.

This experience takes place at a carefully selected private wilderness location in Rovaniemi region. The exact location is shared with confirmed guests. The one-way vehicle transfer from Rovaniemi to the activity starting point takes approximately 45 minutes. Round-trip transportation from Rovaniemi is included. This estimate refers only to the one-way journey by vehicle to the point where the activity begins. It does not include the activity itself.
