Located on opposite sides of Yllästunturi Fell, Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi provide direct access to the landscapes of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. Ylläs is a year-round destination with extensive outdoor trails and Finland’s largest ski resort. Winter activities include downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and Northern Lights experiences, while summer and the colorful autumn ruska season are ideal for hiking, mountain biking, paddling, and exploring the surrounding fells and forests.
Kittilä Airport is the closest airport to Ylläs, approximately 35 kilometers from Ylläsjärvi, with flight connections from Helsinki and several European cities. Airport buses connect Kittilä with the Ylläs area, while the villages also offer hotels, apartments, cottages, and other accommodations. Reserving accommodations and activities well in advance is recommended during the busy winter season.
