DESCRIPTION
The itinerary below is an example of a recommended program of activities. Depending on your wishes and the period of your stay, we may add or remove activities. It is also possible to change the order of the activities. Please contact us by email at info@nordicodyssey.net and we will happily help you plan your holidays!
DAY 1 – ARRIVAL
Welcome to Lapland!
In the evening, you will go for a Snowshoeing Adventure by Night. Your aurora guide will take you to some elusive nature area with no light pollution where you can observe the Northern lights in the sky when they are visible. Your guide will drive you up to 1h away from Rovaniemi in the most promising direction, based on the forecasts. Equipment and snacks are provided, and your guide might even take pictures on good nights!
NB: Depending on your time of arrival and tiredness, we can plan an additional activity during the day. We recommend on booking our Aurora workshop to develop our knowledge of the phenomenon at the earliest stage of your vacation!
NB2: There is a possibility to book a Northern Lights photography hunt or a Private Northern Lights Hunt during your stay so you don’t miss any chance to catch them.
DAY 2 – ANIMAL DAY
This morning, you will meet the most iconic animals of Lapland: reindeer! Reindeer have played a significant part in local traditional lifestyle. Encountering those lovely semi-wild animals is always a unique experience for anyone visiting Rovaniemi!
You will enjoy a complete visit of an authentic reindeer farm, meet the herders and their animals, learn about their lifestyles and reindeer husbandry. As it is the first visit of the day, you will also get the chance to feed the reindeers with some of their favourite food. This is a great chance to approach the animals too, as reindeer are still very wild.
You will also have the opportunity to practice your driving skills with a self-driven short sleigh ride of 400-600 m (around 2-3 min).
In the afternoon, you will head to a family-size husky kennel located in the forests. Dogs and mushers will warmly welcome you. You will also be given driving instructions and be introduced to your own dog team.
Once ready, you will embark for a great 10km sleigh adventure (around 50 min) You are usually two per sleigh (one passenger and one driver) and you can switch half-way: this way you can enjoy a complete experience during the safari!
After the safari, you can spend time with the dogs: they love cuddles and photos! Mushers will also be happy to answer your questions around a warming open fire, before return back to Rovaniemi.
DAY 3 – THE FROZEN WATERFALLS
Let’s go today for an all-day trip to the reserve of Korouoma Canyon (located 120 km from Rovaniemi).
With your guide, you will hike down into the Korouoma canyon and get to the best spots to admire the frozen waterfalls. The protected reserve also offers beautiful nature, picturesque snowy landscapes and …fun! The best way of going down is sometimes by sledding down the little slopes created by the path!
Some of the most impressive frozen waterfalls are famous for ice-climbing, and you may spot some brave adventurers climbing the ice walls as you hiked along the canyon. If you feel fit enough, your guide may take you even closer to the waterfalls so that you can really be at the bottom and touch them! Not everyone has this priviledge…
At the end of the hike your guide will prepare an open fire and you will enjoy a delicious Finnish barbecue lunch. That is a convivial moment to warm up and fill your stomach before heading back to Rovaniemi.
In the evening, you will have the opportunity to relax and warm up from your hiking day! Whether you are looking for a traditonal and authentic experience or a more modern approach of the Finnish sauna, we have the perfect option for you. If you are lucky enough you can enjoy a stargazing or aurora watching moment!
DAY 4 – MEET SANTA CLAUS!
This is your free day.
Our recommandations :
Visit the village of Santa Claus on your own (no guide needed), meet Santa and take a picture with him! In Santa Claus Village, you will also have the opportunity to cross the Arctic Circle.
If you wish to experience it in a unique way, it is easily accessible by bike. You may choose our rental or our guided options, E-fatbikes are perfect for winter adventures!
In the afternoon, we recommend to visit the Arktikum Museum to learn more about life in the Arctic, local culture, nature and the climate change challenge.
In the evening, you will seat around a fire and having a special night! This Finnish Legends night will take you to into some dark forests or some empty frozen lakes outside Rovaniemi where you will enjoy a relaxing and cultural evening. Lit by the cracking flames of an open fire, you will travel through old stories and ages to discover more about the Finnish culture, traditions and life in the Far North.
DAY 5 – THE ADVENTURE DAY
If you are looking for a moderate level experience, you will start your adventurous day with a Full Arctic Adventure! This is a guided snowshoeing hike that combines different activities: walk on deep snow, orientate yourself in arctic wilderness, learn from your environment to survive, try ice-fishing to catch your lunch and make your own fire! A typical Finnish snack will be provided to grill over the open fire.
If you are keen on challenging yourself, we highly recommend our full day adventures such as : All day Ski expedition in the arctic, Snowshoeing adventure to the Amethyst mine or our Premium snowshoe/ski option in Lapland!
Experience Lapland nature with a premium guided adventure! On snowshoes or trekking skis, you will walk off the beaten paths into white arctic landscapes. This high-quality experience allows you to explore other region of Lapland and discover some beautiful postcard landscapes.
DAY 6 – DEPARTURE
All good things come to an end… But we hope to see you under the midnight sun!
Depending on your time of departure, we may arrange extra activities for you during this last day. You may also request to add one or several days to this program if you would like to enjoy more of Lapland.
Activities possible to add include for example:
– another Northern Lights Hunting Experience
– ski trekking
– long reindeer safari (3h)
– Equipment rental (Skis, Snowshoes, E-bikes, Ice-cleats, etc.)
– Extend your trip or split your trip reaching the Northern part of Lapland in the direction of Ylläs!

PLEASE NOTE
Based on your request, our team will arrange the holiday package for you. Contact us with a detailed request mentioning your preferred accommodation and if you want to customise the program ; we will then send you all information with a quote.
Transportation and most of the activities are in very small groups. Participants will be accompanied by their own professional guides during the holidays.
A minimum of 2 adult participants is required for the trip to operate. For large groups (more than 8 participants), please contact us and we can discuss a specific package.
Child rate applies until 12 years old. Because of rough winter conditions in Lapland, adjustments shall be made to the program so it is suitable for kids under 10 years old.
For snowmobile safari, a valid driving license (for cars) is required if you wish to drive the snowmobile. The safari is twin driving, you are 2 participants on one snowmobile (1 driver, 1 passenger). Solo driving (1 per snowmobile) may be possible at extra costs.
You will be provided with professional winter overalls and boots if needed (optional). However, please dress appropriately with warm inner clothes, two pairs of socks, gloves and hats during your activities.
CANCELLATION POLICY
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 20% if booking is cancelled 31 days or more before departure;
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 100% if booking is cancelled 30 days or less before departure.

PAYMENT
Payment by bank transfer and credit card are accepted.
An immediate 30% deposit payment is required to confirm the booking. Payment of the remaining 70% is required at least one month before departure.
