Discover the magical forests of Riisitunturi National Park with snowshoes or Altai skis on our private guided adventure from Rovaniemi!
The scenery at Riisitunturi National Park is like fully-snow-covered “cotton” trees during winter months (January-March). However, depending on the first snow, those landscapes might be visible already in the early season. More specifically regarding the hike, it is usually around 4-8km with the goal to reach untouched or off tracks areas of the National Park. In fact, this experience is designed to explore elusive nature area or reach some viewpoints over the immense subarctic forests.
Because the tour is private, you are given the opportunity, when booking, to choose where you would like to live this adventure. Precisely, this particular scenary and pictures are located in Riisitunturi National Park (2h driving distance from Rovaniemi) but you may change destination. After arriving at the National Park, you may opt for a hike with snowshoes or back country skis depending on your fitness level and previous experiences with winter sports.
Along the way, your outdoor guide will explain to you about your surroundings, the fauna and flora, footprints in the snow, etc. A break with an open fire will also allow you to grill a typical Finnish snack with hot beverages. This is a great opportunity for your guide to show you how to build a fire in arctic conditions and answer all your questions about Lapland.

When booking, you’ll have the choice between trekking skis and snowshoes. Snowshoes are easier to use on all terrains but are better suited for shorter distances. Altai skis let you glide smoothly over deep snow, allowing you to cover more ground at a faster pace; however, they can be a bit more challenging on hills and downhill sections. Regardless of your choice, both types of equipment are beginner-friendly, and your guide will tailor the trek to match your skill level.

The price is fixed for the entire group (from 1 to 7 adults, aged 12 and above), regardless of the number of participants. If you are planning to join with children under 12 years old, please contact us beforehand so we can discuss a suitable itinerary or offer a customized private tour.
Please note that a moderate amount of walking is involved. Therefore, this tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers, individuals with heart conditions, or those with limited mobility.
We suggest having a hearty meal before the activity and dressing warmly according to current weather conditions. CANCELLATION POLICY
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 10% if booking is cancelled 7 days or more before departure;
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 50% if booking is cancelled between 7 days and 24h before departure.
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 100% if booking is cancelled 24h or less before departure.
