DAY 2 - FREE DAY / SANTA CLAUS VILLAGE

FREE DAY / SANTA CLAUS VILLAGE

On the following morning of your Northern Lights Experience and pretty exchausting travel, we recommed on having a good night sleep and therefore do not overload the day with mandatory activities. However, we do have a few suggestions on what to do!

The visit of the Santa Claus Village is free of charge, therefore we do not provide a guided experience there. That is why, this free day is a good opportunity to either reach the village by public transportation, shuttle, taxi or E-fatbikes (rent with us as extra).

On the other hand, if you feel like taking the best out of this trip, we recommend our famous excursion to Korouoma Canyon and its frozen waterfalls.

DAY 3 - MEET ARCTIC ANIMALS

The third day of this holiday program is dedicated to arctic animals!

YOUR MORNING EXPERIENCE!

One of the must-do experience that you probably have heard off, is meeting and feeding the most emblematic artic animals: reindeers. In the morning, your guide takes you to one of the most authentical reindeeer farm for you to meet the herders and their animals, learn about their lifestyles and reindeer husbandry. As it is the first visit of the day, you will also get the chance to feed the reindeers with some of their favourite food. This is a great chance to approach the animals too, as reindeer are still very wild. If we have enough snow, you will have the opportunity to practice your driving skills with a self-driven short sleigh ride of 400-600 m (around 2-3 min).

GET READY FOR AN AFTERNOON THRILL!

After your lunch break, you will head to an ethical kennel with the chance to take part in a husky safari! Depending on the snow condition you will embark for a great 6 to 10km either on sleigh or cart adventure! The safari lasts around 30 – 50 min (depending on the snow conditions and the speed mood of the dogs). You are usually two per sleigh/cart (one passenger and one driver) and you can switch half-way: this way you can enjoy a complete experience during the safari!

After the safari, you can spend time with the dogs: they love cuddles and photos! Mushers will also be happy to answer your questions around a warming open fire.

EVENING TIME IN YLLÄS!

As you end your safari, your guide will head back to the city center where you can collect your bags, use the bathrooms and get ready for approximately a 2h drive to a northern part of Lapland (Ylläs). Once at the cottage, you will have time to setlle in your rooms (shared rooms for 2 people), and relax in the sauna while your guide prepare you a nice dinner. It is the perfect place to disconnect from the everyday life stress and have a restful sleep.

DAY 4 - CONNECT WITH NATURE!

It is time to explore Lapland from a different perspective! After eating a comforting and filling breafast, we will pack our bags for a full day snowshoeing in the national park right next to the cottage. How awesome is it to be in nature only a few foodsteps away from your accomodation? Depending on the fitness level of the group, the guide will choose the most adequate hiking path. In addition to the hike you will of course stop to have a lunch break in the wilderness and enjoy the famous “finnish barbecue snacks”.

After your hike, we will return to the cottage and enjoy a rewarding sauna session will be well-deserved! We can then comfort ourselves with a warm meal together, and if the conditions are promising we will go hunt the Northern Lights Together!

DAY 5 - FREE DAY

After a good night’s sleep, this day is yours to enjoy free time. You can relax at the cabin, take advantage of the sauna, and enjoy the beautiful surrounding nature. Alternatively, you may choose one or more activities of your choice (these activities are not included in the base price) among the following selection :

– Snowmobile : guided tour from 115€

– Electric fatbike ride : rentals starting from 50€

It’s up to you to create the memories you want.

For the evening together, we will enjoy an evening under the theme : cultures of the North. Based on our Finnish Legends and tales activity, your guide will story tell about the different mythologies and stories associated to the local cultures. It is also a great moment for you to ask all the questions you may have!

DAY 6 - FISH & EAT
FISH LIKE A LOCAL

Ice fishing has been part of local culture in the Far North for centuries. Traditionnally it was one of the rare ways to get food in wintertime when the conditions are the roughest. Nowadays, many Finnish people still enjoy sitting on a frozen lake for hours to try to catch their lunch and relax. So, don’t you want to try?

Your guide will drive you to some good fishing spots based on the frozen stage of the lakes/river.

You will be shown the basics of ice-fishing, how to drill your hole in the ice, and the different techniques to catch a fish. If you are lucky and get a good catch, your guide will even show you how to prepare it.

AFTERNOON TRADITIONAL COOKING

After fishing (whether you caught one or not), you will have the chance to learn how to make the traditionnal salmon soup with your guide at the cottage. Enjoy a fun moment together cooking your dinner and taste it during the evening while having some small gathering party. In case the weather is promising for the Northern Lights, you will also have the opportunity to observe the sky in the National Park a few hundred meters from the cottage.
