Activity programme

If you cancel the activity programme more than 7 days before the start of your holiday, a 20% cancellation fee applies. For cancellations made between 7 days and 48 hours before the package starts, a 50% cancellation fee applies. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the package starts are non-refundable.

Accommodation

If the accommodation is cancelled more than two months before check-in, a 10% cancellation fee applies. From two months before check-in, the accommodation is non-refundable.

Your guide does not follow the same itinerary every evening: weather maps, cloud cover and aurora forecasts are analysed before departure to identify the most promising direction.

There is no fixed route because the most suitable viewing direction changes with the weather. Your guide analyses the latest forecasts and plans the evening around cloud movement, clearer areas, road conditions and safety. The tour may include several stops to observe the sky and respond to changing conditions.

No. The Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon, and successful observation requires both sufficient aurora activity and a clear or partly clear sky. No responsible tour operator can guarantee a sighting. Nordic Odyssey provides favourable opportunities through detailed forecasting, local knowledge, flexible planning and professional observation equipment. Choosing the Aurora Pass gives you several possible evenings, but the final result always depends on nature.

Nordic Odyssey provides an honest assessment of the expected conditions rather than creating unrealistic expectations. The guide may adjust the departure time, change direction or select different viewing locations when clearer skies may be available.

Aurora Pass guests can choose another reserved evening. If you would prefer a different experience, the team may also help you reschedule or change to another evening activity, subject to availability and the applicable booking conditions. Tours are normally cancelled by Nordic Odyssey only when travelling conditions are considered unsafe.

Yes. Your guide will photograph your group with a professional camera, allowing you to enjoy the experience without worrying about camera settings. There is no fixed limit on the number of photos. All successful images and portraits will be sent by email within the following days through a private high-resolution download link. When the Northern Lights appear, your guide will also take professional aurora portraits. Because visibility depends on weather and solar activity, aurora sightings and portraits cannot be guaranteed. Your guide will still capture memories of your tour and the surrounding landscape.

Yes. This small-group Northern Lights tour from Rovaniemi is specifically designed for aurora hunting and photography. Our priority is to analyse the conditions, move toward the most promising skies, make several stops when useful and remain flexible throughout the evening. Professional photographs and hot drinks are included.

For that reason, we intentionally do not build the evening around a fixed BBQ or long campfire stop. While eating sausages around a fire can be enjoyable, it can also keep a group in one location at exactly the moment when the cloud situation changes elsewhere.

On this tour, the Northern Lights come first. If the sky changes, we want to be able to get back into the vehicle and move.

For most evenings, three hours gives us a good balance between effective aurora hunting, flexibility, comfort and safe driving. The tour has no fixed location: our guide chooses the direction according to the latest weather and aurora analysis and can make several stops during the evening.

Within that timeframe, we can cover a substantial search area around Rovaniemi. Depending on the direction and road conditions, a route may take us up to approximately 100 km from Rovaniemi, and crossing toward Sweden can occasionally be a realistic option when the forecast justifies it.

At the same time, travelling farther is not automatically better. The Northern Lights may be clearly visible only a short distance outside Rovaniemi, and driving hundreds of kilometres through the Arctic night does not necessarily improve your chances. Our own forecast methodology deliberately focuses on approximately 100 km around Rovaniemi because it offers a practical balance between finding clearer conditions and avoiding excessive night driving on snowy or icy roads.

We therefore do not believe that spending the entire night driving 500–600 km simply to market a tour as “guaranteed” is necessarily the best experience. Most visitors also have daytime activities planned and should be able to enjoy the rest of their holiday rather than return exhausted after an all-night drive.

If your guide believes that a little additional time could realistically make the difference, they may choose to extend the tour slightly at their own discretion. The purpose is to make a sensible decision based on the actual conditions, rather than drive farther simply for the sake of distance.

Yes. Autumn is an excellent time to experience the Northern Lights in Rovaniemi. From late August onwards, the nights become dark enough for the aurora to be visible, while September and October combine Northern Lights opportunities with beautiful autumn colours and often milder temperatures than winter. November marks the transition toward winter, bringing longer nights and the possibility of the first snow. As the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, sightings can never be guaranteed.
