Private Wilderness Sauna & Ice Swimming in Winter

• Participants must arrive suitably dressed for cold winter weather. We recommend wearing warm clothing, comfortable hiking shoes or winter boots, gloves, and a hat. Dressing in layers will help you stay comfortable throughout the tour.
• Please bring a swimsuit and an extra set of dry clothes for the sauna experience. 
• We recommend bringing a bottle of water to stay well hydrated throughout the experience.

We offer several departure times for this private wilderness sauna experience:

Afternoon session at 13:00: A good choice for enjoying the surrounding landscape in daylight, even during the darkest winter months from November to January. Depending on the season and weather, you may also see beautiful sunset colors.

Afternoon session at 16:00: Ideal for unwinding before dinner. From January to February, this departure may also offer colorful sunset views over the lake.

Evening session at 19:00:  The lakeside sauna faces north and is located away from city lights, creating good conditions for watching the sky when it is clear. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed.

An overnight stay in wilderness cabin with traditional sauna: Combine the evening sauna with an overnight stay at the wilderness cabin for a deeper immersion in Lapland’s nature and more time beneath the night sky.

Yes, when the ice and weather conditions allow it, your guide can prepare a swimming hole in the frozen lake. Ice swimming is completely optional. You may simply enjoy the wood-heated sauna and cool down outside in the fresh winter air or snow instead.

The wilderness cabin is located away from city lights, beside a lake with an open view of the northern sky. This provides suitable conditions for watching the Northern Lights when the sky is clear and aurora activity is sufficient. However, the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed.

A hotel sauna is often electrically heated, while a traditional Finnish sauna is heated with firewood. Water is poured over the hot stones to create löyly, the warm steam at the heart of Finnish sauna culture. During the experience, you can enjoy the heat at your own pace, cool down outside in the fresh air, and try optional swimming when conditions are safe. This traditional sauna experience reflects a way of life that has been part of Finnish culture for generations and is recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Yes. Children are welcome to join the experience. In Finland, families often enjoy the sauna together, and the private session can be adapted to each child’s age and comfort. Young children should spend only a short time in the sauna and remain under constant adult supervision. They may also stay in the warm cabin with an adult. Ice swimming in winter is not recommended for young children, but they can step outside with an adult to cool down in the fresh air or snow and experience the traditional contrast between heat and cold.

This experience takes place at a carefully selected private wilderness location in Rovaniemi region. The exact location is shared with confirmed guests. The one-way vehicle transfer from Rovaniemi to the activity starting point takes approximately 45 minutes. Round-trip transportation from Rovaniemi is included. This estimate refers only to the one-way journey by vehicle to the point where the activity begins. It does not include the activity itself.
