Private Ice Fishing & Sauna Experience

• Participants must arrive suitably dressed for cold winter weather. We recommend wearing warm clothing, comfortable hiking shoes or winter boots, gloves, and beanies. Dressing in layers will help you stay comfortable throughout the tour.
• Please bring a swimsuit and an extra set of dry clothes for the sauna experience.

We offer two distinctive sauna settings, each providing a different way to enjoy Finnish nature and culture.

Traditional wilderness sauna: Located approximately 40 minutes from Rovaniemi, this traditional log sauna sits beside a peaceful lake in a secluded natural setting. When conditions are safe, an ice hole can be opened for guests who wish to try ice swimming. This option is recommended for those seeking an authentic Finnish atmosphere, deeper immersion in nature and a quiet place to disconnect and reset.

Panoramic riverside sauna: Located approximately 15 minutes from Rovaniemi, this modern sauna overlooks the river through large north-facing windows. It is ideal for guests who value beautiful scenery, contemporary comfort and convenient access from the city. Ice swimming is not offered here because of the river’s litllle current and depth, and because the frozen river may be used as a winter route by snowmobiles, dog sleds and skiers.

No. This experience is designed for beginners, and no previous fishing experience is required. Your guide will show you how to drill a hole through the ice, use the fishing equipment, and try the basic techniques of ice fishing.

The catch depends on whether you fish on a lake or river. Perch and small northern pike are commonly found in Lapland’s lakes, while perch are often caught in the rivers around Rovaniemi. Fish species, size and activity vary according to the location and natural conditions, so a catch cannot be guaranteed. Your guide provides the equipment, explains the local techniques and may prepare a suitable fish if you are successful.

If you catch a fish that is large enough, your guide will show you how to prepare and cook it over the open fire. During the fireside break, you will also enjoy traditional sausages, snacks, and hot drinks. Ice fishing depends on the weather, location, and the fish’s natural behavior, so a catch cannot be guaranteed.

This experience takes place at a carefully selected private wilderness location in Rovaniemi region. The exact location is shared with confirmed guests. The one-way vehicle transfer from Rovaniemi to the activity starting point usually takes approximately 15–35 minutes. Round-trip transportation from Rovaniemi is included. This estimate refers only to the one-way journey by vehicle to the point where the activity begins. It does not include the activity itself.
