All Day Ski Experience in Lapland

A FIRST EXPEDITION EXPERIENCE ON TREKKING  SKIS

This all-day ski adventure is designed to offer you a first expedition experience on backcountry skis! Your guide will take you in small groups far away from Rovaniemi to reach elusive nature areas, where you can explore Lapland wilderness forests, hills and snowy landscapes.

Ski trekking is an easy and accessible winter activity. It allows you to move freely on deep snow away from beaten tracks or groomed trails. The backcountry skis, also called Altai skis or “sliding snowshoes” in Finnish have integrated skins allowing to go uphill smoothly and slide downhill with control. Therefore, they are the perfect gear for long Arctic expeditions and reching places that you cannot be acessed by car or on foot.

AN IMMERSIVE ARCTIC EXPERIENCE

In addition to skis and poles, the group will be equipped with an expedition sleigh (in Finnish, “pulka“). During the tour you will have the opportunity to pull the sled, just like a real explorer! At the same time, your guide will share practical knowledge about Arctic travel. ​You will learn how to prepare for an expedition, what to pack in the sled, and how to stay safe in cold weather conditions.

Finally, the goal of this day expedition is to reach a beautiful spot with a panoramic viewpoint. Once there, your guide will then make a fire. You will all enjoy a wild barbecue lunch surrounded by Lapland’s pristine nature.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL

This all-day adventure requires a good physical conditions. Participants must be able to confidently trek and cover approximately 15 km during the day. However, no previous skiing experience is required. The Altai skis are stable and easy to handle, which makes them suitable for beginners. Nevertheless, because this is a long and active day outdoors, participants should be confident hikers with a good level of fitness.
