DESCRIPTION
This is the best animal combo in Rovaniemi! Most reindeer & husky tours in Rovaniemi usually provides only very short sleigh rides (1-2 minutes each…) in crowded touristic places… Our excursion offers a proper experience with visits of two authentic family-sized places, two long sleigh rides (around 20 minutes each) and a delicious lunch in a wooden kota. This is the perfect tour for families or if you want to combine two excursions in one.
After being picked up and given warm clothes, you will be transported to a 5-generation authentic reindeer farm located away from Rovaniemi. You will be introduced to your own reindeer and sleigh, and will go for a romantic ride of 2 km (around 20 min). A herder will always be with you and will lead the caravan (please note that a self-driven ride is not posible on longer distances because reindeer are semi-wild animals).
After the ride, you will enjoy a lovely time at the farm, where herders and your guide may answer all your questions about reindeer husbandry. A delicious home-made salmon soup will be served with hot drinks (vegan option possible on request), and pancakes cooked over the open fire!
Your guide will then drive you to your second stop of the day, an ethical husky kennel. Dogs and mushers will warmly welcome you. You will also be given driving instructions and be introduced to your own dog team.
Once ready, you will embark for a great 5km sleigh adventure (20 min). You are usually two per sleigh (one passenger and one driver) and you can switch half-way: then you can enjoy a complete experience during the safari!
After the safari, you can spend time with the dogs: they love cuddles and photos! Mushers will also be happy to answer your questions around a warming open fire.
About your dogteams : most of the sledding dogs in Lapland are Alaskan huskies, a mixed breed which is very performant in racing. Those friendly well-trained dogs love running, they even need it for their well-being. They will definitely be super excited to run with you! However, please note that the big fluffy Siberian huskies are not so good runners, therefore they are not traditionnally part of sledding dog teams (except in movies!).
COMING IN SUMMER / AUTUMN?
We organise the reindeer & husky combo with lunch also in Summer and Autumn. The sleigh safaris are unfortunately not possible due to the lack of snow. But the combo experience is still worth it with longer visits, some little extra activities and more time spent with the animals. Lunch can also be tailored.
In Autumn, dogs need to be trained for the upcoming winter! You may then take part in the training of Polar dogs and join a wheelcart ride, if you would like to!

We recommend to book in advance, as availability may be limited in peak seasons.
A minimum of 2 paying adult participants is required for the trip to operate. We reserve the right to cancel the trip if the group is too small or because of bad weather conditions.
If you are a solo traveler, you are very welcome to join any departing trip at the standard price or we may organise the trip just for you at some extra costs (please contact us).
Child prices apply only to children under 12 years old. Children must be accompanied by one adult. The child rate only apply if the conditions of two paying adult participant is met.
Please dress appropriately according to the weather, with warm clothes, good winter boots, gloves, hats and thick socks.
This tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers, for people with heart conditions or with limited mobility.
The mentioned duration of the safari is only indicative; the experience may last longer or shorter, depending on snow conditions or the animal’s good willing.
It is ultimately up to the herders and mushers to dispatch the participants in the sleighs to maximize performance and ensure a smooth sled ride. Their decision should be respected and trusted as they know what is best for their animals. This rule is in place to protect both the participants and the animals involved.
Only adults (18+) are allowed to drive the huskies during the safari.
CANCELLATION POLICY
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 10% if booking is cancelled 7 days or more before departure;
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 50% if booking is cancelled between 7 days and 24h before departure.
- We will charge a cancellation fee of 100% if booking is cancelled 24h or less before departure.
