DESCRIPTION
OBJECTIVE: AURORAS!
As passionate aurora experts, our mission is simple: give you the best possible chance to see the Northern Lights, while ensuring comfort, safety, and honesty. With years of experience in Lapland, we run a well-organized and serious aurora photography hunt designed for real observations – not rushed sightseeing.
What makes us different:
Small groups (max. 8 guests)
Travel comfortably in a minivan, with more flexibility, attention, and better photo opportunities.
Weather-based decisions
Each tour is planned using detailed weather maps and aurora forecasts to choose the most promising locations, even far from Rovaniemi if needed.
Multiple stops, no rush
We stop as often as necessary to scan the sky, enjoy Lapland landscapes, and take photos.
Expert local guide
Your guide shares his passion and knowledge, explains the science behind the auroras, and takes photos of you under the lights.
Safety & Comfort first
Hot drinks provided, careful driving, and constant attention to your well-being.
Full transparency
We always inform you honestly about weather conditions and aurora chances before the tour. If conditions are not promising, you’ll know, so you can decide freely.
Even when nature doesn’t cooperate, we make sure the experience remains safe, enjoyable, and meaningful. You’ll always know what to expect and we’ll always do our very best to find the lights.
AURORA PASS
TRY AS MANY NIGHTS AS YOU WANT
A smarter way to see the Northern Lights
Seeing the Northern Lights is not about driving hundreds of kilometers on icy roads or staying out all night in bad weather. The real key is patience, persistence, and choosing the right nights. Clear skies matter more than distance.
With our Aurora Pass, you can try on multiple nights and skip the least promising ones. Every morning, you receive a clear weather report to help you decide whether to join the tour that evening. No wasted time, no unnecessary risks, just better chances and a more enjoyable holiday.
BEST VALUE & MAXIMISE CHANCES
The Aurora Pass offers one of the best values for a Northern Lights photography tour in Rovaniemi.
You book 3 consecutive nights minimum, and can join additional nights for a discounted price of 75€ per night.
WHY TRYING SEVERAL NIGHTS ?
- Increases your chances to see the auroras
- Lets you choose the best night if you prefer to go only once
- Gives you the opportunity to experience different types and intensities of Northern Lights
Single-night bookings are sometimes available last minute (48 hours before), but winter availability is very limited—booking the Aurora Pass in advance is strongly recommended.
CONFORT, SAFETY & COMMON SENSE
Some tours promise unlimited driving or even “guaranteed” Northern Lights. In reality, this can mean hours on icy roads, long nights in a packed minivan, and unnecessary risks.
We believe in a better approach:
Realistic planning, local expertise, small groups, and safety first. With the Aurora Pass, you enjoy several well-planned nights, better comfort, and peace of mind – without exhausting drives.
More comfort, more flexibility, and better chances to create unforgettable memories.
PHOTOS CAPTURED FOR YOU
Your guide is always equipped with a professional camera, specifically designed for low-light and night photography. For us, this is essential. Why is the camera so important? Because it can capture more light than the human eye. This helps us detect even the faintest aurora activity early on and anticipate changes in the sky. It’s a valuable tool that helps us make better decisions during the tour.
And of course, you’ll want to remember the moment! All photos taken by your guide will be shared with you in high quality via email, so you can relive the experience and share it with others.
BAD WEATHER? WE INFORM, YOU DECIDE
The most important factor for seeing the Northern Lights is the weather. In Rovaniemi or anywhere else, a clear or partly clear sky is essential.
Unlike many companies, we are fully transparent about your real chances. Each day, you receive a clear, easy-to-understand weather report with scientific data and realistic expectations, so you can decide until the last moment whether to join the tour.
With the Aurora Pass, your seats are reserved for at least three consecutive nights, allowing you to join only when conditions feel right and maximizing your chances overall.
We rarely cancel tours unless conditions are unsafe. Instead, we keep you honestly informed about weather, possible driving areas, and expectations. Some guests prefer to try regardless of conditions, and we respect that. In all cases, we do our best to make the experience safe, enjoyable, and meaningful – even if the Northern Lights remain hidden.
ABOUT YOUR AURORA HUNTERS
All our guides are experienced and have spent a lot of time exploring the immensity of Lapland, discovering new locations and learing how to read the sky. They are true Aurora enthusiasts with years of experience exploring the vast wilderness of Lapland. And of course, they will always be very happy to share with you their knowledge and passion about local nature!
When it comes to Northern Lights hunting, we work as a team. We analyse the weather forecast together and discuss about the best directions to explore. We collaborate to cover large areas, and stay in constant communication throughout the night. By spreading out across different areas and sharing real-time updates, we increase our chances of finding clear skies and making sure you get the best chance to see the Northern Lights.
GO FOR THE EXPERIENCE!
Don’t come just for the Northern Lights – come for the experience.
Wander the silent, snowy wilderness of Lapland under the stars.
The Northern Lights are unpredictable phenomenon, and if you’d rather not spend hours in a minivan, try our snowshoeing adventure by night. .
Just an hour from Rovaniemi, it takes you through peaceful forests and scenic viewpoints. You might see the auroras, and even if you don’t, the experience is unforgettable.
TRAVELING WITH KIDS? CONTACT US FIRST
Chasing the Northern Lights in winter can be challenging; long drives, waiting in extreme cold (sometimes down to -30°C), and returning to Rovaniemi after midnight. The best viewing spots are often exposed and windy.
For safety and comfort, we do not accept children under 8 on regular Northern Lights tours.
If you’re traveling with younger kids, we recommend our Northern Lights family tour with photos. This is a private experience specially designed for children aged 4 to 8.
MAKE IT A SPECIAL NIGHT
Northern Lights hunts are full of surprises and unforgettable moments. Want to celebrate or surprise someone? We can help plan a meaningful moment and capture it on camera.
But remember! Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed, but we always do our best to make the experience worth it.
Looking for something even more intimate or exclusive? Check out our Private Northern Lights Tour (3h30) or our Premium Northern Lights Photography Hunting (6h). Both options offer a more personalized experience, extra services, and flexible cancellation.

For this reason, we recommend booking the Aurora Pass, which offers much better value for a Northern Lights photography tour in Rovaniemi.
With the Aurora Pass, your seat is reserved for at least 3 consecutive nights. You can then join the tour on any of those nights, or all of them!, depending on the weather forecast and your energy level. The more nights you try, the higher your chances of seeing the Northern Lights. The price with the Aurora Pass is only 75€/night, and you may also add extra nights if desired. If you would like to alternate with other night experiences, such as snowshoeing by night, wilderness sauna, or a Finnish legends & tales night, just contact our team at info@nordicodyssey.net and we will help create a custom itinerary for you.
A minimum of two paying adults is required for the tour to operate. Solo travelers are welcome to join any confirmed departure at the standard rate or contact us to arrange a private tour (extra charges apply).
Children under 12 years old benefit from a discounted rate. However, children under 8 years old are not allowed on this tour for safety reasons, especially in winter when conditions can be very harsh. Families with younger children should book our Northern Lights Family Tour. In autumn, exceptions may be made for children under 8, but please contact us before booking to confirm.
Please dress appropriately according to the weather, with warm clothes, good winter boots, gloves, hats and thick socks. You may rent professional winter overalls and winter boots for an extra cost of 5€/set/night.
