ABOUT Kilpisjärvi

Yes. The cairn marks the meeting point of Finland, Sweden and Norway, and the route depends on the season. In summer, you can hike the marked 11 km trail through Malla Strict Nature Reserve. Alternatively, take the seasonal boat across Lake Kilpisjärvi to Koltalahti and walk the remaining 3 km to the cairn. In winter, it can be reached by skiing across the frozen lake or along the Malla route; guided snowmobile excursions may also be available. Winter access depends on ice, snow and weather conditions, so always check which routes are open before setting out.
