Ivalo

Ivalo is the largest village in Northern Lapland and an important service center in the municipality of Inari. Located beside the scenic Ivalojoki River, it offers convenient access to forests, rivers, Lake Inari, Saariselkä, and the surrounding Arctic wilderness. Winter activities include Northern Lights tours, snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and visits to reindeer and husky kennels. During summer and the colorful autumn ruska season, visitors can enjoy hiking, cycling, fishing, and paddling.

Ivalo Airport, Finland’s northernmost airport, is approximately 11 kilometers, or about a 10-minute drive, from the center of the village. It offers year-round connections from Helsinki and seasonal direct flights from several European cities during winter. Ivalo has a variety of accommodations, including hotels, cottages, and glass-roofed aurora cabins, and provides an accessible base for exploring Northern Lapland throughout the year.
