Ice fishing is one of Finland's oldest and most beloved winter traditions — and Lake Ylläsjärvi, just a short walk from our Safari House, is the perfect place to try it. No fuss: just pull on your warm gear and head out onto the ice.
Your guide shows you everything: how to drill through solid ice, how to set your line, and how to read the subtle signs that a fish is near. While you wait, lie back on a reindeer skin, listen to stories of how the villagers fished this same lake in the old days, and take in the extraordinary experience of being on a frozen Finnish lake. Children under 4 are welcome under parental supervision — this is one of the most magical first winter memories a young child can have.

This tour starts from our Safari Office located in the centre of village Ylläsjärvi. You can arrive at our Safari Office by foot, by skibus or by car. You can park your car in front of our Safari Office at Tirroniementie 2 C, 95980 YLLÄSJÄRVI Skibus stops in Eelin kauppa, 100 metres from our Safari Office. Arrive at least 15 min before the activity starts. Pick up your winter gear from our Safari Office. Wait until the tour begins.
